Confident, sexy, and architecturally captivating---three ways to describe the work of American fashion designer, Bishme Cromartie. The Baltimore, Maryland native was born February 16th 1991, and has been toying with design, essentially, ever since. By 8 years old, he’d began sketching designs, which led to learning the basics of sewing while staying with his aunt one summer in New York. Hand sewing eventually graduated to a sewing machine, and after a few years of making clothes for friends and family, Cromartie put his efforts into starting a clothing line.

The clothing brand Bishme Cromartie is best known for its bold, yet streamlined fashions. His garments reflect characteristics of the art that inspires him: limitless, fun, daring, romantic, and socially conscious. With celebrity clients like Andra Day, Dascha Polanco, Karrueche Tran, and Niecy Nash, to name a few, Bishme’s attention to architecture ‘sculpts and celebrates a woman’s body,’ according to Vogue.

His mission as a Black designer, is to encourage self-expression, advocate for representation, and shatter the expectations for people of color in the fashion industry. “I want to showcase the talent that we possess; there are many designers, like me, who are able to become household brands and dominate in the fashion industry.” His goal is to raise the bar on what it means to be a black designer, and to continue opening doors for all people of color in fashion. “I want the story in my designs to appeal to my demographic, and inspire those who may not see proper representation of themselves.”

Bishme Cromartie has been published in Elle, Essence, Forbes, Los Angeles Times, Vogue, The Washington Times, and WWD, as well as shown on Bravo and BET.
